Before treatment:
Five years ago the visual acuity of the patient's left eye decreased and gradually became aggravated. She was examined in the local hospital and 3 to 4 years ago a bilateral cataract surgery was performed. The postoperative visual acuity did not recover significantly and then she was diagnosed as having "macular degeneration" by the local hospital. Her condition is still gradually progressing and her visual field continues to decline. At present her left eye visual acuity is poor, she cannot read the visual acuity table, at 20cm she can reluctantly distinguish the number of fingers and the central visual field of both eyes is partially missing.
Her spirit is good, there is no significant change in body weight, she needs drugs to sleep which she has used for more than 20 years, her diet is normal, her urination and defecation functions are normal.

Admission PE:
Bp: 113/72mmHg, Hr: 69/min, breathing rate: 18/min, body temperature: 36 degrees. Height 167.5cm, weight 73Kg. Nutrition status is good with normal physical development. There is no injury or bleeding spots of her skin and mucosa, no blausucht, no throat congestion, and her tonsils do not have swelling. Chest development was normal, the respiratory sounds in both lungs were clear and there was no dry or moist rales. The heart beat is powerful with regular cardiac rhythm and no obvious murmur in the valves. The abdomen was flat and soft with no masses or tenderness. The liver and spleen were normal and there was no edema of the legs.

Nervous System Examination:
Patient was alert, had clear speech, her memory, comprehension and calculation ability examinations were normal. Bilateral pupils were equal and round, diameter 3.0mm, react well to light, eyeballs can move freely and there is no nystagmus. With 3 the meter eyesight exam chart: The right eye naked eyesight was 3.8; with glasses 4.5. At 1meter distance, naked eyesight 4.1. Left eye naked eyesight at 50cm  can only distinguish the number of fingers  with difficulty. She always lost some words or letters when she was reading. The eyes fundus examination: right eye: faint yellow, there was grey-white plaque at macular area, A:V 1:3; left eye: faint yellow color, there was grey-white plaque at macular area with exudation, irregular border, A:V 1:4. The bilateral forehead wrinkle and nasolabial fold are symmetrical, showing teeth was normal, she could make her tongue extend out normally and her neck can move freely. The 4 limbs muscle tone were normal, muscle power was 5 degrees. Abdomen reflex was normal, bilateral biceps reflex and radial periosteal reflex could not be induced, triceps reflex was normal. The bilateral patellar tendon reflex was normal, the ankle clonus of both sides cannot be induced. Her palm-jaw reflex was negative, Hoffmann sign of both sides was negative, Rossilimo sign of the arms was negative and the lower pathological reflex of the legs was negative. The sensory system examination was normal and coordinate movement was normal.

Treatment:
After the admission she received 3 nerve regeneration treatments (neural stem cells and mesenchymal stem cells) to repair her damaged macular region and retina, replace dead cells, nourish optic nerves and retinal cells, improve body environment, regulate her immune system and improve blood circulation. This was combined with rehabilitation training.   

Post-treatment:
After 14 days treatment the 3 meter eyesight exam chart results are: right eye naked eyesight 4.0; with glasses 5.0; left eye naked eyesight at 80cm can only can distinguish the number of fingers, she can see the first two lines in the eyesight cham chart at 30cms.
