Before treatment:
The patient had visual field defect and diminution of vision at the age of 6 years and he was taken to hospital and diagnosed with RP. 13 years ago his condition got worse fast. At present he can see big objects at a distance of 5 meters with both eyes and he can see big objects at the distance of 1 meter with one eye. He can’t see any color besides white and black and he has central visual field defect.
His spirit is good, his sleep and diet are normal. His urination and defecation functions are normal.
Admission PE:
Bp: 125/79mmHg, Hr: 74/min, breathing rate: 17/min, body temperature: 36.5 degrees. His height is 157 cm, weight 77Kg. Nutrition status was good with normal physical development. There was no injury or bleeding spots of his skin and mucosa, no blausucht, no throat congestion and his tonsils had no swelling. The respiratory sounds in both lungs were clear and there was no dry or moist rales. The heart beat was powerful with regular cardiac rhythm and no obvious murmur in the valves. The abdomen was flat and soft with no masses or tenderness. The liver and spleen were normal.
Nervous System Examination:
Patient was alert and had clear speech. His memory, orientation and calculation abilities were normal. Both pupils were equal in size and round with a diameter of 3 mm. His right eye reaction to light was worse than the left side, his left side can distinguish lamp amount and location. There was central visual field loss and only some peripheral visual field. He could not distinguish color well seeing only white and black. He could see blurred shapes of humans at 5m distance and with one eye he can only see the blurred shape of a human at 1m distance. The eyes fundus examination: right side, faint yellow color, A:V was 1:3, there was exudation surrounding the vein. A lot of black osteoid deposit in the midperiphery area, optic nerve head edema, unclear border of macula; the left side, faint yellow color, A:V was 1:3, there were black osteoid deposit in the midperiphery area, optic nerve head edema, unclear border of macula with macula atrophy. The eyeballs can move freely. The bilateral forehead wrinkle and nasolabial fold were symmetrical, showing teeth was normal, he could make the tongue extend out as normal and the neck could move freely. The muscle tone of his 4 limbs was normal, muscle power of the 4 limbs was basically 5 degrees. The abdominal reflex was normal, 4 limbs tendon reflex were normal, sucking reflex was negative. The Palm-jaw reflex, Hoffmann sign of both sides, upper limbs Rossilimo sign and the Babinski sign of both sides were all negative. Sensory system and coordinate movement were normal. Meningeal irritation sign was negative.
Treatment:
After the admission he received 3 cell regeneration treatments (neural stem cells and mesenchymal stem cells) to repair his damaged retina, replace dead retinal cells, nourish retinal cells and optic nerves, regulate his immune system and improve blood circulation. This was combined with rehabilitation training.
Post-treatment:
After 14 days treatment his vision function was better, he could now see big objects at a distance of 20 meters, he could see walls and doors at the distance of 5 meters. He could also now see pens and fingers at the distance of 50cm.
