Lautaro Rodas-Hypoxic-ischemic brain damage-(Argentina)

Before treatment:

The patient was born at his mother's 27 weeks pregnancy. The weight was 1.56Kg at birth. He stayed in incubator for several days. The breathing, heart rate and sucking reached normal level. The patient suffered from lung infection when he was 3 months old. He had the whole body purple and breathing difficulty. His breathing and heartbeat paused for 7 minutes. After cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the breathing and heart rate was restored to normal. After 2 weeks of treatment, family member found out that the movement of patient's limb was different with other. There was no active movement. The patient received MRI of head and it showed the brain injury. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. He took Baclofen for 4 months. The gaits was abnormal when the patient turn over, sit- up, stand or walk. The intellectual development was lagging behind normal baby.  The comprehension was normal. The vocabulary was less, but he still could express his wish.

From onset of disease, the diet was normal. The sleep was normal. The defecation and urine routine were normal. There was no genetic disorders.

Admission PE:
Bp: 96/54mmHg; Hr: 120/min, Br: 22/min. Temperature: 36.8deg. Height: 98cms, weight: 15kgs.  The development was normal and the patient's body type was normal. The skin and mucosa were normal with no yellow stains or petechia. The thorax was symmetrical. The respiratory sounds in both lungs were clear, with no dry or moist rales. Through auscultation, the heart sound was strong. The cardiac rhythm was regular, with no obvious murmur in the valves. The abdomen was flat, with no pressing pain or rebound tenderness. There was tympanic note when we tap the abdomen. The liver and spleen were not enlarged.

Nervous System Examination: 
Lautaro Rodas was alert. His speech was clear. He was lively and active. He had less vocabulary and mainly used phrases and words. He could express himself correctly. He could count from 1 to 10. He couldn't do calculation. The examination of orientation, memory and comprehend were normal. Both pupils were equal in size and round, the diameter was about 3.5mm. Both pupils were sensitive to light stimulus. The forehead wrinkle pattern was symmetrical. The nasolabial sulcus was equal in depth. The movement of trunk and upper limbs were normal. He was lively and active. The standing and walking gait were abnormal. Both toes were involutedly positioned and he stood on tiptoe slightly.  Both knees were bend slightly. The muscle strength of his four limbs was at level 5. The muscle tone of upper limbs and trunk were normal. The muscle tone of four limbs was increased slightly. There was slight contracture in both knees joints and ankle joints. Right side Babinski sign was positive. The examination of deep and shallow sensation were normal. The coordinate movement examination was normal. Head MRI(2012.4.10) showed: periventricular leukomalacia.

Treatment: 
After admission, Lautaro Rodas received relevant examinations. The patient received treatment for nerve regeneration and to activate stem cells in vivo. The patient received treatment to improve the blood circulation in order to increase the blood supply to the damaged nerves and also to nourish the neurons. He also received treatment to enhance his immunity. This was combined with rehabilitation training. 

Post Treatment: 
The muscle tone of both lower limbs has reduced to normal level. The internal rotation of toes and slight tiptoe condition has been alleviated. The flexion of knees has been alleviated. Both lower limbs can be stretched better. Left knee joint can be straightened completely. Right knee can be straightened with slight assistance. The patient's condition has improved.
